Family's dream ends in despairFor David and Danielle Getliff, last year it seemed the natural thing to do, to buy their own home in which to bring up five year old son David, and a second child which was on the way.
David, 24, said: "We lived in a council house in Second Avenue, Sudbury, and we took out a 90,000 mortgage to buy it."
With only David's wage from Sudbury's Delphi factory to rely on, the couple found themselves spending more than they could afford to feed and clothe themselves and their children, and pay the bills.
"It was just a downward spiral," said David. "With children and one wage you end up spending more than you've got. I tried to pay a bit off the mortgage each month, but there were charges because we were in arrears so I wasn't really paying much off the actual arrears."
Danielle, 23, added: "Social services have been involved because they were told by someone that we weren't feeding the children. But of course we were. Do you pay the mortgage or do you feed and clothe your children?"

David has said he has had to give up his job because his income would affect his in laws' benefits, and he is unable to get to work from Nayland because he does not have a car.
Problem on the increase
Michael Harding, spokesman for housing and homelessness charity Shelter said the Getliff's case was echoed all over the country.
